This is a wonderful safety razor. This razor may be the Rolls Royce of them all.

The first thing I noticed with this razor is the wonderful craftsmanship, design and plating. The razor is really a finely made precision tool. It is simply a beautiful design. Upon holding this tool, the next thing I noticed is the impressive weight/handle density. This is a solid metal design. It

The razor has a very large handle. I like the large size because of the weight advantage it provides when shaving.

The shave is wonderful. The heavy weight of this razor and tuned head make shaving a breeze. However, The extra weight of this model razor required a little getting used to. When I let the weight of the razor do the work with no pressure, I get a wonderful shave. The trick is to really let the weight of the razor apply the blade pressure to my face.. not to pressure the razor against my face. Compared to some of the lighter safety razors I have, I had to really re-train myself to use this razor. However, thre the result is an execeptionally close and comfortable shave.

The design makes it very easy to clean the blade.. Simply rinse the head under running water. There is no issue with the razor clogging. I also find blade changing simple and easy. The 3 piece desing is simple and efficient. With no moving parts, I expect this razor should last a lifetime.

This is my second Merkur safety razor.

The first one was fine, and will remain at my second home (work).

This Merkur Futur is now my favorite way to shave.

It's expensive, but the blades are cheap and the razor is a joy to own.

I used to shave with the Gillette twin blade razor. That is, until they came out with the triple blade 'system' - when I switched over to that. After a while they came out with the Quattro and I said, "What the heck, lets keep up with the times". Finally, when Gillette introduced the Schtick (or some such monstrosity) a bulb went on in my head. It seems to me that they want to innovate for the sake of innovation.

That's when I decided to try out the old tried and tested solution and know what? I am never going back. It used to take me atleast 4-5 rinses every time I shave using a multiple blade 'system'. That's because the blades are so close together that hair gets trapped between the blades. They promise you a closer shave and all that, but I haven't seen any difference.

My double edged razor - the same one that my dad and probably his dad used to shave with - gives me a very close shave and I only rinse once and even then I just hold it under water and all the hair is gone. With the Gillettes I used to have to rub it with my fingers to get all the hair off!

Not the least is the feeling of manliness you get when you shave with a double edged razor. Yes, it's not a straight edge, but this is why I like it. It is innovation where they've made a good product (straight edge) better and safer!

I use a Merkur Long Handled Safety Razor with these blades. Best decision I've made in a long time.

I've been using these for a few months now and have been very happy with the results. They work really well with a Merkur and last about a week, maybe slightly more if you want to push it, with daily shaving. I've read some reviews saying that you need Merkur blades for a Merkur razor, but I've tried both and haven't seen any difference. Buying in bulk like this definitely has cost benefits - it's only a few cents per blade, which is another added benefit to switching from the Mach 3 (and its ilk). Anyway - these are good razors and will give you a very very close shave. Just remember that you absolutely have to use a high quality cream or soap or you run the risk of cutting the crap out of your face...

After having tried several different brands of blade for my safety razor, I settled on this one. For my purposes, the Astra blades seemed sharpest, ran smoothly over my face and left me with fewest nicks. These are my choice of blade.

I'm fairly new to DE shaving so I've only compared these to 2 other blades, Gillette platinum's and Personnas using both a Schick Krona and Gillette Tech. I prefer them to either in both razors. My beard is tough, like it can whip Kimbo Slice AND his beard tough, and these can last up to 5 shaves at three passes per. I got 2 maybe 3 from the others so these are a great value. I will buy them again.



A note for those thinking about getting into DE shaving, do it! I switched because I had to start shaving daily & using a Fusion was killing my face even though was preparing properly. Ingrown hairs had plagued me since I can remember but since switching I don't have a problem unless I ignore the grain. I shave with and across, never against and I still get baby butt smooth skin. That's something I never got without bumps and burns with the Fusion!
There was small learning curve but well worth it. I've since tried going back to compare and it was like switching channels to standard broadcast from HD. It's shocking how much better this is.
The price is right too. The slogan says "New blade, better shave" and at 20 cents a blade compared to .50 I can use a new blade everyday and still pay less than half that of using a Fusion. As you might have guessed I'm very happy I switched and I suspect you will be too.

This is my first double edge safety razor. I have very sensitive skin and therefore have always been in pursuit of the best shave for my type of skin. I started shaving 20+ years ago with disposable double blade razors. I later moved on to Mach 3, then 5 blade razors, and more recent expensive electric razors. I have also tried various shaving foams, creams, lotions, etc. I have never been satisfied with any shaving product. Until now! After much research, I decided to try a double edge safety razor. I bought this particular razor along with a Parker badger brush and a glycerin shaving soap. I must say, I am amazed at what I was able to achieve with my first try. I actually did not get any skin irritation! I am very happy that I was finally able to find something that actually works! Now, I am able to shave everyday without worries. If you dont buy this product, at least buy another double edge razor. I'm sure they will work better than anything else that's out there.

I was a bit apprehensive about using a DE razor at first but I have to say I was surprised by what a great shave I get with these razors. I have to admit, I haven't yet tried other brands such as Feather or Derby (I've recently ordered a sample pack.) but I am pleased so far with Merkur.

One of the downsides for me personally, and I can't really blame this on Merkur alone, is that I can't shave against the grain with a DE razor which means I have to shave more often. With that said, I think its done my skin good for the long run.
